Men's Night Out

Well, now we know who the most popular girl in high school was! Talk about a great turn out. Shirley hosted October’s MNO. Over 50 people attended; there was a bigger turn out at Shirley’s than at some of the monthly meetings!

Of course, not only men attended; there where a lot of ladies as well. The men stayed busy working on Shirley’s car out in the garage between heaping plates of pasta and homemade apple pie that Shirley slaved over a hot stove all day making. The guys were making good progress with Shirley’s car, although I don’t know how far they got because we have a 3 year old and had to leave early. The blessing of the night was that Drew Wommack’s son, William, was there to help entertain Dominick. Even though William has a few years on “The Dom,” William was very patient and gentle with him.
I realized that there was an 88 year difference between the least experienced T’er, Dominick, and the most experienced T’er, Hugo. From the youngest to the oldest everyone had a great time at Shirley’s. Thank you Shirley. See y’all next month at the good Dr. Mike Ns house.

The Vanishing Bridges of Denton County

An extra special THANK YOU to Gary & Suzy for another wonderful Tickey Creek Tour. This year found us in Denton County travelling over old iron bridges, some due to be relocated in the near future. Our hosts had research the history of the bridges and had that included in our tour books. It was a slow paced, absolutely beautiful fall weekend with great food and great friends.

The inspiration for this Tour came from an article in the November, 2005 issue of Texas Highways, titled "The Bridges of Denton County". For a sneak preview, check out http://dentoncounty.come/dept/main.asp?Dept=112&Link=126. Of the 17 old iron bridges documented in the article, only 8 remain in service and we will be touring 7 of these. Denton County has no plans to replace many of these bridges, but they are saving these "iron" bridges, with most going to parks or other pedestrian uses. Yes, I know these bridges are steel & rivet construction, but "old iron bridges" just sounds more romantic. This tour will be two days, Saturday and Sunday. the tour will officially begin Saturday, at the square in Denton, departing about 1:30 pm. A group will be leaving from the Home Depot parking lot at Coit & Campbell in Richardson at 9:00am Saturday morning to head to Denton, with plans for arriving about 11:00am, in time to browse and eat on the Square before beginning the Tour. Parking will be available for trailers near the hotel for those out of town'ers that would like to trailer to Denton. Route plans are finalized. Saturday afternoon will only be 35 miles, but at a slow pace. Supper will be at the hotel. About 50 miles Sunday morning, and about 50 miles back to North Dallas Sunday after lunch. Two meals are included in the Tour registration cost, Saturday evening and Sunday lunch. The plan for Saturday supper will be an unusual surprise catered at the hotel, and plans for Sunday lunch include an old favorite, Ranchman's Steak House in Ponder.

We will include an after-supper stroll on Saturday to the Square for ice cream, lights required. The bridges we will be exploring are on lovely country roads. We have managed to find a good collection of "Model T" roads. We had to search hard to find any hills, but did find a couple miles of ups and downs, nothing that will test a T. There will be a few miles of rock roads, but these will be driveable and safe, event if we have. . . what is that work???. . . oh yeah, RAIN! If there is a gully washer that weekend, we could have a couple of impromptu detours, but that was the life in a Model T. The mileage will be low and the pace will be slow, with several stops.

2006 T-Party — Georgetown
SPECIAL THANKS to our Hostess Sandra L.. Dave was MIP (missing in Pennsylvania) - he gets a thank you for all the prep work, but Sandra and all of the Space City T members that rallied around to help her put on a GREAT TOUR. The photo on the front cover is our own Glen & Martha M. in Salado on Friday. (Yes, WE were in Salado on Friday!) That is an inside joke that I’m sure you will hear more about in the future. The photo below was taken Thursday morning in Georgetown where we toured a large property of tractor rust. We all agreed that our husbands garages’ are 100% tidier that what this shop was. The location for 2007 T-Party looks to be Uvalde. Details will be announced after the first of the year, watch your newsletter!
