MEN'S NIGHT OUT - MARCH 14TH

This month the meeting is at Mitch’s shop and George L’s Coca-Cola Truck will be the “T” of the evening. The plan is to work on the rear springs of the truck. So come on out to lend a hand, or just observe some work on a T.

Well, March’s Men’s Night Out has come in like a lion and gone out like a lamb. It was a pleasure to work in a place with so much space to move around. It took the entire time allotted, but we accomplished our mission of putting new rear springs under George’s Coke truck.

We had a few problems, as would be expected with any T project. The fit and the length of the old u-bolts being too short to go around the frame and added leafs where a challenge. But in true MNO fashion, a member came to the rescue. As it turned out, Drew Wommack has a storage facility not 10 minutes from Mitch’s shop. Drew rushed out like Superman and in 2 shakes of a lamb’s tail he was back with longer, workable u-bolts. It was a combined effort by all, be it common sense, usable knowledge, or brute force strength with the proverbial “bigger hammer,” but in the end, the Coke truck was on the ground ready to roll. As a matter of fact, one of the bigger hand’s of help in the project came from the smallest person there. I know what you’re thinking, and very funny; No, not me! There was actually someone there smaller than me, and that was Dave R’s Grandson, Jeffery. A special thanks goes out to Jeffery, as he really was a very crucial part of finishing the project. Jeffery was able to get into spaces even too small for me. Imagine that? It is good to see a future Model T’er in action and learning the craft.
If you have not had the pleasure of seeing George Lander’s Coke truck in person, then you are missing a treat. It is a pretty cool toy. It looks like a life size Hot Wheel. Now all of this was only part of the evening. We were also fortunate enough to have Larry Peterson there with his hand crank and Strobo coil testers. Mitch did a great job as a host. Not only did he provide an enormous and clean working environment, but plenty of rejuvenating goodies to keep our tummies from growling. Although I did get there a bit early and caught a fleeting glimpse of Suzzane scurrying out of the door. So I am not sure that giving Mitch all the credit for the cold cuts and cookies is apropos. I suspect a bit of glory bestowed to our ghost host may be in order. I plan to see you all there at next month’s MNO, hosted at the home of Hal Wolff. Although Hal has no Ford for fixin’, I hear he may show us what one of those old cevolay’s look like. If you have a Ford for sale that Hal might be interested in, (so Hal can fit in and we won’t have to look at a chevy all night), give him a call.

Model T Yard Sale Was A Huge Success!

With the help of some Model T friends from both the Ft. Worth and Dallas Clubs, Mrs. Wells sold a yard - barn and shed full of Model T parts, and the truck that her husband had been building. She told me that she had no idea that he had bought such a “collection” through the years, but was very appreciative of everyone who came to help and buy from this one day sale.
